Post-GCSE Student Placement Programme Success

In June 2019 East Devon Health launched a student placement programme for students from schools across East Devon. The aim of the programme was to centrally co-ordinate and offer placements to students interested in careers as Doctors in General Practice, particularly for students who may not otherwise have opportunities to access placements in a surgery. The programme was over-subscribed and some practices hosted more than one student. The ambition is to expand the programme next year to cover all roles in General Practice such as nurses, pharmacists, health care assistants, management and admin. Primary Care Networks

From 1 July 2019, Primary Care Networks launched in Devon. It is the biggest transformation in more than a generation to the way family doctors work. General practices across Devon will begin working together formally within local primary care networks (PCNs), typically serving patient populations of 30,000-50,000. There are 31 PCNs in Devon. All have appointed GP clinical directors to lead work across the member practices.  In East Devon there are 3 PCNs, WEB (Woodbury, Exmouth and Budleigh), HOSMS (Honiton, Ottery St. Mary and Sidmouth) and TASC (Townsend, Axminster and Seaton & Colyton).  Dr Brian Taylor is the Clinical Director
