In June 2019 East Devon Health launched a student placement programme for students from schools across East Devon.
The aim of the programme was to centrally co-ordinate and offer placements to students interested in careers as Doctors in General Practice, particularly for students who may not otherwise have opportunities to access placements in a surgery. The programme was over-subscribed and some practices hosted more than one student.
The ambition is to expand the programme next year to cover all roles in General Practice such as nurses, pharmacists, health care assistants, management and admin. We are in discussions with other areas across Devon to look at expanding beyond East Devon.
